LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE
I’m giving you some tough love in this episode. You almost certainly don’t need an integrator – I know, it sounds crazy. I have an integrator, but everyone saying they need one is a huge misconception. 90% of the people that I talk to in this space don’t need one, and when they say they’re looking for an integrator, they’re using the wrong word.
A lot of big businesses have an integrator, and for them, it’s an important role that needs to be filled. However, it’s a trend that’s gone too far. An integrator is not an executive assistant and not a project manager. I’ll specify on these and give even more examples of what integrators are not. What an integrator does is help you actually execute your vision.
There’s a checklist I think you should go through before ever hiring an integrator, and at the top of that list is reading Rocket Fuel. You also need to know your business’ core values so that you can hire someone who aligns with them.
The most important thing to consider is if you have the right mindset to hire an integrator. An integrator will work in unison with you to move the business forward. Are you ready to let go by giving them power in your business? My integrator, Katie, manages me by telling me “no.”
When you’re ready for it, an integrator is one of the most powerful positions you can have. The synergy between me and Katie is great, and that’s because I was ready for an integrator. Don’t rush into hiring one. Take it slow.
